If you’re passionate about Cuban rhythms, there’s a dance style you can’t ignore: Reparto Cubano. More than just steps, Reparto Cubano is pure energy, culture, and identity, and in Malta, there’s only one place where you can truly experience and learn it — Plus53 Cuban Styles, the island’s only authentic Cuban academy.

In this article, discover what Reparto Cubano is, how it connects to Cuban Salsa, and why learning Reparto will transform the way you dance and feel Cuban music.

Discover the Only School Teaching It in Malta

There’s a rhythm coming out of Cuba that’s different from everything else. It’s raw, urban, powerful, and full of flavor. It’s called Reparto Cubano, and it’s a style that’s taking the world by storm — yet in Malta, only one academy is keeping it alive and teaching it with authenticity: Plus53 Cuban Styles.

But what exactly is Reparto Cubano? Where does it come from? And why is it important to the evolution of Cuban dance like Cuban Salsa?

Let’s dive into one of the most vibrant and revolutionary expressions of modern Cuban culture.

1. What Is Reparto Cubano?

Reparto Cubano is not just a dance — it’s a movement. The term “Reparto” refers to the urban neighborhoods in Cuba where this style was born. It blends Afro-Cuban body movements with the explosive energy of Cuban urban music, particularly reggaetón cubano and timba dura.

Reparto is about attitude, presence, and flow. It’s danced solo or in freestyle battles, and it reflects the creativity, resilience, and confidence of Cuban youth.

Unlike traditional Cuban Salsa, which is danced in pairs, Reparto is often performed individually, with strong footwork, body isolations, and playful, rhythmic expression.

The Heartbeat of Modern Cuba

Born in the vibrant streets of Havana’s neighborhoods, Reparto Cubano is Cuba’s answer to urban dance culture. It fuses Afro-Cuban movement, reggaetón cubano, and street attitude into a powerful solo dance style.

Forget choreography—Reparto is about:

  • Groove and bounce
  • Body isolations
  • Freestyle expression
  • Confidence and Cuban street flavor

It’s danced to the sounds of Cuba’s hottest urban artists, blending tradition with modern beats.

2. The Musical Roots of Reparto

Reparto is deeply connected to the evolution of Cuban music. In the early 2000s, young Cuban artists began to create a local version of reggaetón — more raw, percussive, and culturally charged than the commercial Latin reggaetón known in the mainstream.

Some key artists that shaped the Reparto music scene include:

The beats are heavy, the lyrics often speak about street life, love, identity, and pride in Cuban roots. The result? A powerful music genre that demands movement — and that’s where Reparto dance comes in.

3. The Connection Between Reparto Cubano and Cuban Salsa

You might wonder: “I already dance salsa, why should I learn Reparto Cubano?”

Here’s why every Cuban Salsa dancer should embrace Reparto:

  • Body Control: Reparto sharpens your isolations, making your salsa movements smoother and more expressive.
  • Musicality: It trains your ear for modern Cuban rhythms, improving your timing in salsa.
  • Freestyle Confidence: You’ll master solo moments in salsa (desplantes) with authentic Cuban style.
  • Expand Your Repertoire: True Cuban dancers blend salsa, rumba, Afro, and Reparto seamlessly.

At Plus53 Cuban Styles, we teach you how to connect these worlds — just like dancers do in Cuba.

Reparto vs. CubanSalsa: What’s the Difference?

While CubanSalsa is built on partner work, social interaction, and musical phrasing from son and timba, Reparto is more about individual expression, groove, and urban energy.

For online membership purchases where the statutory right of withdrawal applies, consumers have a 14-day withdrawal period starting from the date the membership is purchased online and payment is completed, in accordance with Regulation 10 of S.L. 378.17.

Once the applicable 14-day withdrawal period has expired, membership payments are non-refundable for a change of mind or personal circumstances.

Choosing to stop attending, deciding that the course is no longer suitable for you, work or personal commitments, holidays or travel, missed classes, changes to your personal schedule, or distance from the Academy do not entitle you to a monetary refund.

Missed classes do not reduce the price of the membership and are not refundable.

Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any rights that a consumer is legally entitled to under Maltese consumer protection law.

Class Flexibility & Make-Up Classes

The class day selected during registration helps Plus53 organise groups and attendance. However, students are not permanently tied to that specific day.

If you are unable to attend your usual class, you may attend another available class of the same level, subject to availability.

If you miss a class because of travel, work, holidays or other personal commitments, you may request to attend an additional class during another week as a make-up class, subject to availability.

Students may also request to change their regular class day during the course. For example, if your personal or work schedule changes, you may move from one available class day to another without having to purchase a new membership.

These flexible options are provided to help students make the most of their membership. They do not create an entitlement to a monetary refund for classes that the student chooses or is unable to attend.

Class Schedule & Changes

Plus53 reserves the right to make reasonable changes to class schedules, days, times, instructors or teaching locations when necessary.

Students will be informed of relevant changes whenever reasonably possible.

Requests to move to another class, change the regular attendance day or attend a make-up class are subject to availability and the capacity of the requested class.

Membership Credit

If you are unable to continue the course, Plus53 may offer the unused value of your membership as credit instead of a monetary refund.

Any credit granted will be valid for 12 months from the date it is issued and may be used towards an eligible future Plus53 course, subject to availability.

After the 12-month validity period, any unused credit will expire.

Membership credit is personal and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Course Attendance

Purchasing a membership gives the student access to the selected course for the applicable membership period. The membership price is not calculated according to the number of classes actually attended by the student.

Personal absences, holidays, travel, work commitments or other circumstances that prevent attendance do not reduce the membership price.
